The inspection requires that beyond the visual inspection of the home, test equipment must be used to verify the findings. I employ the use of a carbon monoxide detector, gas leak detector, moisture meter, infrared scanner, electrical testers, borescope camera and a digital camera to record it all.

I use the "Flir I7" Thermal Imaging camera. This camera was designed for building inspection and maintenance. Unlike many thermal cameras which require the operator to change the settings for the material to be scanned, the I7 has pre programed settings for stucco, concrete, asphalt shingles etc. It even has settings for the type of paint on the wall, matt, semi gloss etc.

The borescope camera can take color pictures and video in very hard to reach areas. A small digital camera and light system are mounted on a flexible shaft of one meter in length. The camera head can fit into a 5/8 inch opening. Very handy for checking areas which are obscured from vision.
